RDJ Says

After a certain while, I was like why am I wearing this football suit? Just put some dots on my shoulders so I can move more freely. I go, 'honestly, what are you really using all this stuff I'm wearing for?' And they go 'it's for reference' so great, I'll wear it for one take and then I'll take it off and relax for a little bit. Then Bettany would be like "I'm stuck in this fucking thing, darling" and he'd be painted purple. Everybody got to join in on the joys and the misery of the technically challenges. By the end, because [Mark Ruffalo was] smart Hulk, they literally were just making him big wherever he wa and they'd put a piece of PVC with a big Hulk head up about 5 feet over where his head was. He was just here in a green suit. In a tracking suit with like his package out. And he'd be like let me at least tie a little sarong around my waist, come on, guys. I think Mark went about as far out in the ionosphere of CGI as you can …For me, starting up again with [Iron Man] again is off the table. I feel I've done all I could with that character. There'd have to be a super compelling argument and a series of event that made it obvious. The other thing is, I want to do other stuff.

Lit Reference

The movie is based on characters from Marvel comic books.

Time & Place

It's set in present day but with time travel that goes as far back as the 1940s, with settings on earth and in space.

Critical View

Peter Travers, Rolling Stones: Downey lowers Stark's snark quotient to create something genuinely moving. His young daughter measures her devotion to him in multiples. "I love you 3000," she says. Fans will surely feel the same.

Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times: In a movie filled with terrific performances, the standouts are Scarlett Johansson, whose Black Widow has changed in so many ways since we first met her; Chris Hemsworth, providing a surprising amount of comedic relief as a very different version of Thor, and most of all Robert Downey Jr., whose Tony Stark has always been the most fascinating, complex, multi-layered, charismatic "civilian" persona of any superhero universe I've ever visited. The Motion Picture Academy never recognizes great acting if it comes attached to a costume or a cape. That doesn't mean Downey isn't deserving of an Oscar. It's great acting in a great film.

Peter Rainer, Christian Science Monitor: Best of all is Robert Downey Jr. Amid all the hardware, he alone in the Marvel series has consistently given top-notch performances. His work in Endgame is extraordinarily moving and makes me wish yet again that this great actor would on occasion see fit to be great in a movie that doesn't require him to fill out a franchise.

2 Reasons to See It

1. Find out how the world's most expensive cliffhanger ends.
2. You love endless speculation about how time travel works.

Overall

This surprisignly emotional final chapter to the Avengers saga is not really a standalone movie. If you don't watch Infinity War first, it won't make any sense. It's so full of jokes, character arcs, emotional closures and extensive references to past Marvel movies that how much you'll enjoy this movie is 100% linked to how many other Marvel movies you've seen and how much you liked them.
